Snoop Dogg's Drop It Like Its Hot feat. Pharrell is yet another classic party song. The lyrics are instantly catchy, and the music could be heard on ringtones for years. Its an incredible minimal beat - much like Snoop Dogg's delivery - and goes to show that good production can still be simple: the track was produced using nothing but keyboards, a drum set and a series of tongue clicks. There were additional vocal samples from the song "White Horse" by Laid Back.

Drop It Like Its Hot was -along with "Beautiful" - a resurrection. The song topped the charts in the US and hit #10 in the UK; a feat Snoop Dogg had never before accomplished. The rapper had struggled with commercial success during his tenure with No Limit. Snoop was obviously uninspired by the lackluster production of No Limit's in-house team (he had after all worked with Dr. Dre for years) and dropped three albums in extremely fast succession in order to fulfill his contract; while this is understandable, the albums he recorded sounded like he didn't care, and greatly hurt the rappers reputation.
Shortly after, however, Snoop Doggy Dogg began working with the Neptunes, whose minimalist production meshed with his laid back delivery in a perfect creative marriage. With their first release "Beautiful" Snoop catapulted back into the mainstream as a premier rapper working with premier producers. To Snoop Dogg Drop It Like Its Hot was without a doubt the song needed to permanently secure his reputation.

The video features Pharrell and Snoop dancing with a white background while flaunting the standard hip hop images: expensive cars, Champagne, cigars and background dancers. The use of black white throughout the video adds to the minimalist sounds produced by Pharrell. All in all, Drop It Like Its Hot is nothing orignial, but still a great video to watch. In addition to the chart topping success, Drop It Like Its Hot won best hip hop video at the MTV Australia Music Video Awards and was nominated for a Grammy.
Drop It Like Its Hot by Snoop Dogg is without a doubt one of his most popular songs ever, but it was more important in that it firmly secured Snoop as one of the greatest rappers ever, a position that many fans had come to doubt during the No Limit years.
