The majority of binoculars that are made today are more user-friendly for those who wear eyeglasses. Eye relief and the way the binocular eye cups are made should be a major consideration to those who wear eyeglasses. This is because wearing eyeglasses causes the eyes to be further away from the eyepiece. Another critical feature to consider is having the ability to adjust the binocular to the proper setting.
For several eye conditions, mainly near- and far-sightedness, the focal mechanism on the binocular eye cup can help correct the problem. Nonetheless, if you have an astigmatism, the focal mechanism will not make much of a difference (if at all). Normally, the first thing a person does is use their naked eye to find what they're looking for and then uses the binoculars to get a close up view of the object. Eye relief basically means measuring how far it is from your pupil to the exterior of the optic eyepiece. In particular, the image projecting out the eyepiece is in reality looking behind the frontal view of the eyepiece. It's usually best to keep the distance around 10 mm. Nearly all eyepieces designed at a wide angle generally contain shorter distances for eye relief.
People with eye glasses tend to require more eye relief to make up for the distance between their glasses and their pupils. The general rule of thumb is 12-20 mm to allow 80% field of vision at the bottom end and full sight at the upper end. There are several different designs available for binocular eyecups that will afford a longer period of eye relief. Ordinary rubber eyecups can be pulled back to permit the lens of glasses to be in closer proximity to the eyepiece of the optic. Many of the latest more upscale optics have binocular eyecups that can be attuned to the appropriate distance for viewing pleasure for individuals wearing eyeglasses.
High Eye Point binoculars are by and large suggested for people with bigger or denser glasses and for people with more severe eye problems. These are made with better eye relief but are not highly recommended. The main concern with this type of binocular is that it can be trickier to keep the spherical area focused and centered and in line with your pupil. They also have been known to shutdown on a whim as a result of a collapsed eyecup. Thus, a wiser choice would be to choose a regular eye relief optic, even though you may not capture the entire field of vision.
